PENNSYLVANIA FIREFLY FESTIVAL (PAFF) PRESENTS: GLOW & KNOW VIP FIREFLY CAMP OUT EXPERIENCE THE NATURAL WONDERS OF PENNS WOODS AT MINISTER CREEK

GLOW & KNOW A Firefly Camp Out at Minister Creek Campground Glow & Know is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18 and Glow & Know rain-date for Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Minister Creek Campground in the Allegheny National Forest of Pennsylvania. The camp out begins at 2 pm and concludes on the following morning. Meals are included. Campers only need to bring their own tent and camping gear. Attendees will be involved in various nature activities throughout the daytime including informative talks and guided interpretive walks about the Geology, Fauna, Flora, and Fireflies of the Minister Creek area. There will be plenty of free time to explore the immediate area as well as hiking the Minister Creek trail. After a campfire dinner and a late evening program, there will be a viewing of the rare Synchronous firefly (Photinus Carolinus) and its unique synchronous flashing of the male fireflies. Attendees will have the opportunity to observe and collect data as citizen scientists and assist PAFF with their firefly research programs.
Only twelve (12) LUCKY persons (couples encouraged) will be accepted into the Glow & Know experience to ensure a low impact and engaging event. Schedule of events:
2pm-Arrival and set-up camp, 2:30pm-Introduction/overview of program 3:00pm-Talk---Geology/fossils of Minister creek 3:30pm-Begin free time, explore area, hiking 5:30pm-Talk/walk ---Flora/Fauna of Minister Creek 6:30pm-Campfire dinner 7:30pm-Campfire stories/free time 8:45pm-Talk--- Fireflies of Minister Creek 9:30pm-Assemble into designated spots for Synchronous FF viewing 12 am-End of program 9 am-Next morning, rise & shine, breakfast and pack up
The GLOW AND KNOW price is $75/person (plus processing fees) which includes: Campsite fee All activities & materials Campfire dinner, snacks and Continental Breakfast Prizes for all attendees Private Firefly Guide and Expert Interpretation.
Minister Creek Campground is a primitive camping area with 6 drive-in campsites. Potable water and vault restrooms are present in the campground. Drinking water will also be available. No 110 volt AC electricity at the campground. Cell phone/tablet charging available. There is NO Cell service or WiFi. So, you can UNPLUG and enjoy the natural wonders.
This is a rain or shine event, although in the event of severe thunderstorms or high winds the campout will be cancelled and will reschedule for Wednesday, June 26. The fireflies are also highly sensitive to cold, and if the nighttime temperatures drop below 50 degrees, they do not fly.
PAFF is a registered 501(c)3 and proceeds benefit our mission to educate the public and raise awareness about all the fireflies in NW Pennsylvania and help to support the research of our interns. The PAFF holds a Special Use Permit through the USDA Forestry Allegheny National Forest for this event.
