MOBB DEEP:
Mobb Deep is an American Hip hop duo from Queensbridge, Queens, New York, U.S., that consists of Havoc and Prodigy. The duo is "one of the most critically acclaimed hardcore East Coast Hip-Hop groups". The group is best known for its dark, hardcore delivery as exemplified by the single "Shook Ones Pt. II". Mobb Deep have become one of the most successful rap duos in Hip Hop having sold over three million records. The majority of their albums have been critically acclaimed, in particular The Infamous, which is considered to be classic among avid Hip-Hop listeners and general fans. They are partially credited for the resurgence of East Coast rap in the early to mid-'90s. Havoc and Prodigy were also judges for the 7th Annual Independent Music Awards to support independent artists' careers and breakthroughs. The group briefly disbanded in 2012 after a feud broke out between its members, but that has since been resolved and they have reunited for a 20th anniversary tour and new album.
CRAZYHORSE AND COLSTON:
CrazyHorse & Colston is a hip hop duo based out of Asheville, North Carolina. As Asheville natives, the duo takes pride in making music that a wide range of audiences can enjoy. Both emcees were heavily influenced not only by Hip Hop music, but also by Rock, Blues, Folk, and Bluegrass (among others) and have blended many of these genres together to make their latest album, "Backroads & Bonfires," which features many talented local musicians such as Don Lewis of "Sons of Ralph" and members of the popular reggae group "Common Foundation."
The two strive to embody the spirit of their Appalachain home while at the same time fighting against a culture of disrespect and superficiality that has become increasingly popular and acceptable in our modern era of music. They believe that this is especially true for hip hop music and seek to reconnect with the roots of this genre and expose audiences to the same raw, creative, and thought-provoking music that they had the benefit of enjoying while growing up. Along with their DJ, DJ Kilby, the group has performed at places such as Asheville Music Hall, The Garage at Biltmore, The Chop Shop in Charlotte, the Burn Neon Music Festival in Old Fort, and the Blue Plum Festival in Johnson City, TN (to name a few). They were recently featured in the Mountain Xpress' Best of 2012 as the number one Hip Hop group in WNC and had the honor of representing their hometown at the most recent Bele Chere street festival in Asheville, NC. Since the June 2012 release of "Backroads & Bonfires," the two have been touring, making videos, and working hard in hopes of spreading their music to a wider audience.
