Rusted Spurs West In Concert!
Rusted Spurs West is Arizonas cowboy/western swing trio that plays tunes from the golden age of western music as well as music from some contemporary songwriters. Songs of The Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, Bob Wills and Spade Cooley; Songwriters such as Cindy Walker, Laurie Lewis and Townes Van Zandt are also featured in their playlist. Rusted Spurs West features outstanding vocals with harmonies and occasional squeezebox leads! They are in the studio now and MAY have CD #2 ready by the night of the concert!
Here's some information on the members of the group: Tex Hamel (Guitar, Lead and Harmony Vocals) Although Tex was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, he grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he played folk, bluegrass, rock and country music. His love for cowboy and western swing music began in 1978, when he saw the Sons of the Pioneers in Colorado and later became friends with the group Riders in the Sky. He says music is special because of lifelong friendships, the creative process and the joy of performing.
Patti Hamel (Accordion, Bass, Lead and Harmony Vocals) Patti has been performing in music since she was in grade school and has acquired quite a variety of musical experiences, both instrumental and vocal. She grew up watching and learning the music from the Golden Age of Western Movies as well as those wonderful western Television shows such as Rawhide, where she fell for her first love, Rowdy Yates! Patti loves the energy found in the rhythms of western music and the stories that are as varied as the colors of a western sunset. She has been performing with the Rusted Spurs in Michigan for the past 5 years.
Bob (Slim) (Bass, Harmony and Lead Vocals) Bob started his Bluegrass career in 1966. He has played with many notable bands throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand over the last 50 years. He now plays with the Old Blue Band (a traditional 5 piece Bluegrass Combo) and Rusted Spurs West. He sings harmony and lead vocals with both. Bob has played several different styles of bass beginning with a Kay upright bass, then went to a fretless electric bass for more mobility on stage. He continued playing acoustic and electric with various bands and now plays a Kala U-Bass.
The concert will be held in the large Meeting room. Doors at 7:15pm, and the music begins at 8pm!
