Revive from ashes and rise. -- Cervantes
Espíritu del féniX is Flamenco Chicago Studio's 10th anniversary showcase, with more than 25 emerging dancers performing traditional and contemporary flamenco choreographies by artistic director Rosetta Magdalen.
Two shows: 8pm on Friday, July 26 8pm on Saturday, July 27
Espíritu del féniX is the story of the journey our students take as they transform the body into the pure emotion that they want to express.
We hope our audiences will feel the power that flamenco brings into our lives, and become intrigued to experience it for themselves.
Each group of students is asking themselves how the choreography they perform has caused a transformation within them. And, how that metamorphosis can be expressed through dance. The answer will be different for each dancer. A moment in time, and the heart and soul of each dancer in that moment.
Each evening offers a first act of student performances followed by a second act featuring a live flamenco cuadro with Flamenco Chicago collaborators, most of whom have worked together for 15 years. Artistic director Rosetta Magdalen will be joined by Sean Arana (by arrangement with Ensemble Español), cantaor Miguel Cuchna, and guitarists Tomás Kimball, Humberto Carrizales, and Andres De La Serna -- and a finale that includes more than 20 dancers.
Show runs approximately 80 minutes.
