Kingfisher Days - US Premiere
This is the stage version of a popular memoir by the Canadian actor and writer Susan Coyne (co-creator and co-writer of the TV series Slings & Arrows). Too young to play with her older brothers and sister, and too old to play with her baby brother, five year-old Susan feels bored and stranded at her family's summer home on Ontario's Lake of the Woods. She is befriended by a neighbor, elderly Mr. Moir, who lets her help with his garden, and introduces her to the wonders of literature. Events take a magical turn when Susan discovers, hidden in an old fireplace, a letter from a fairy - the proud Princess Nootsie Tah. With Mr. Moir and Nootsie Tah as her guides, Susan follows her imagination from the Ontario woods to Alice's Wonderland and Shakespeare's Midsummer Nights Dream, to the high hills of Incan Peru, and home again in the blink of an eye. The title comes from ancient myths of the kingfisher, the Halcyon Bird, whose winter nesting is said to calm stormy seas, affording halcyon days of placid weather. Tennessee Women's Theater Project is proud to present the U.S. premiere of Kingfisher Days, directed by Maryanna Clarke, and featuring Holly Allen as Susan, Buddy Raper as Mr. Moir, and Jennifer Richmond as Nootsie Tah. This heartwarming tale of friendship, childhood - and fairies - offers great family entertainment for adults and children age 8 and older.
