FGI Presents - The Iva Jean Story: From Kickstarter to Retail
Ann DeOtte-Kaufman decided to make a Rain Cape to keep her dry,(and fashionable), for her bicycle commute to work. When fellow urban cyclists asked for her design, she was inspired to create a company named after her Grandmother, Iva Jean, and set out to make functional and stylish professional clothing for urban cyclists with the same needs she had. There was definitely an opening for growth in this niche market...but how to fund it, and get it made? Learn about Ann's journey from running a successful Kickstarter campaign last November, (she had a goal of $15,000 and ended up raising $26,500), to finding great development and production partners with Sewn Product Services. Kristine Carlton and Jenny Mae Miller are the founders of SPS. They made the patterns, plus did the grading and markers. They also matched Ann up with a sewing contractor, and are working with her on new style developments as she expands her line. Adam will guide the conversation as Ann talks with you about what it really takes to do crowdfunding and market your business. Lindsay will discuss the importance of social media and share her expertise on the Kickstarter campaigns she has helped to get funded. Kristine and Jenny Mae will let you know how they can make your concepts into reality. If you are inspired to start your own line, come learn about the possibilities and realities of building your own business from those that are living their dreams.
