Katie Curley: Songs for Harp
Singer-songwriter and harpist Katie Curley performs a new collection of songs arranged for voice and harp. For this project, she has dived into a personal wellspring of stirring and recurring dreams, nightmares, and daydreams. In addition to new originals, her intimate solo performance includes selections from her recent work with Solo Sounds, produced by Eric Roscoe Ambel, including Solo Harp: Leonard Cohen's Songs of Love and Hate and Solo Harp: Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison. Originally from Home, WA, Katie studied classical harp in The Tacoma Youth Symphony and at SMU in Dallas, TX. She formed NYC country band Bourbon Express in 2011 with husband, guitarist Brendan Curley. In 2012, she composed music to Claude McKays poem Subway Wind and played harp on a moving subway for a short film of the same name by award-winning filmmaker Heather Spilkin. In addition to several self-released records, she has recorded a number of solo harp albums on the Solo Sounds label. "Razor sharp, observant and cool." Alan Magpie,The Rocking Magpie "Distinctively delicate vocals." Tara Joan, The Daily Country "Fascinating to watch her onstage, singing as she plucked the strings effortlessly, just her and the harp." Alan Young, Lucid Culture Photo by: Rod Tipton
