Randy Porter Trio - Porter Plays Porter
Our Smiles of a Summer Night series continues with the mellow and inventive Randy Porter Trio. The Portland jazz man and pianist is coming off a Grammy nomination for his new CD "Porter Plays Porter: Featuring Nancy King." He will be playing some tunes from that album as well as his original compositions and other songbook covers.
Randy has been a key musician in the development of the burgeoning jazz scene in Portland. He has a studio for education and plays with, or has played with all the major ensembles coming out of Portland, including PDX, Mel Brown Quartet, and, of course, vocalist Nancy King. We may or may not be privileged to hear the 77-year old crooner in some circles consider the best jazz singer in the US today but we will let you know on our website if that should come to pass.
