Meisner Foundation for Acting Class
The Meisner Acting Classes at Pinch 'N' Ouch Theatre lay an important foundation for acting, utilizing Sanford Meisner's legendary acting technique. You will learn how to use your powerful emotional life to create believable characters. Each week, you will be guided through acting exercises that bring you closer to your emotional impulses and to acting that is firmly rooted in the instinctive. As Meisner puts it, "it's based on the fact that all good acting comes from the heart, as it were, and that there is no mentality in it." These classes are recommended for actors of all levels who are serious about learning the craft of acting.
Teaching Artist Grant McGowen
"Teaching Artist Grant McGowen, and the hardest working man in the theatre business, conducts courses into the finer points of acting, in this class he centers on the Meisner method... These actors are believable and do a good job of being vulnerable... For those of you that have a bucket list or are seeking a shift in careers, join in the fun and take a course from Pinch 'N' Ouch Theatre." -The Backstage Beat "Grant McGowen has gotten fine, sharp performances from all his actors, in every play. As an observer of the Atlanta theatre scene for quite awhile now, I must say that I'm excited by what Mr. McGowen and Pinch 'N' Ouch are offering to Atlanta. It appears that more and more of the city's finest actors want to work with him. Live theatre needs a sense of being on the edge, unafraid of new ideas, new plays, new actors. I think Mr. McGowen is the real deal, and I hope he sticks around." -Atlanta InTown Paper "McGowen's gutsy actors give naturalistic, powerhouse performances... The name, "Pinch and Ouch, honors legendary acting coach Sanford Meisner, who taught that acting had to be absolute truth fully from the heart and soul... That, ultimately, could prove to be the strength of this theater group." -East Atlanta Patch "Edgy is the best word to describe Pinch N Ouch Theatre, a youthful group of dedicated actors shaking up the Atanta theatre scene since 2010. The unusual name is based on a quote from the legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner, who guided students to act truthfully. Founded and led by Grant McGowen, this troop of youthful artists lives up to Meisners standards, earning them the title of "The Hippest Theatre Company in Atlanta." -Showguide Magazine
"Pinch N Ouch Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Grant McGowen teaches an intensive four level approach to the Sanford Meisner acting technique known for producing incredibly raw and authentic acting turns. Here, actors learn to trust their own creative instincts and develop the skills for truthful, truly vulnerable acting on stage and screen ...McGowen has ushered in an acting revolution in the Southeast with his intensive four-level Meisner Acting Immersion course. -Backstage
