READINGS ON 5th FLOOR showcases a series of original work from emerging playwrights at various stages of development in New York City and beyond.
Performed in two acts and in two production sessions, these five short plays highlight voices from the cosmic to the comic and from the fatalistic to the farcical:
Best Beware My Sting, by Donna Latham - We all know that hilarity ensues when shrew-taming is attempted, but this modern spin puts a new lens on the Shakespearean comic tropes that have been held dear for centuries.
Paid Off, by Robert Argen - Wall Street and Main Street collide as one man tries to renew a treasured relationship and perhaps his conscience amidst the wreckage of the 2008 financial crisis.
Residue, by Stacey Lane - A young woman pursues the study of lucid dreaming as she struggles to cope with the insecurities and guilt of imaginary infidelity.
Tornadoland, by Ivan Faute - When Beth stops at a roadside motel for rest after a long stint on the road, some local strangers insist theyve seen her before in this eerie examination of identity and whether anyone can truly escape whats coming.
With This Ring, by Joe Minchik - A young couple confronts generational differences and the inherent limits to compromise in this modern farce about love and (proposed) marriage.
