Harvey Wainapel Quintet
This quintet presents a mix of originals, some standards, and some ought-to-be standards, plus a touch of Brazilian spice here and there
Saxophonist/clarinetist HARVEY WAINAPEL has been a Bay Area mainstay since 1982. His jazz experience has led to performances and/or recordings with the likes of McCoy Tyner, Kenny Barron, Joe Henderson, Johnny Coles and the Metropole Orchestra. He has toured internationally with Ray Charles, Joe Lovano, and Airto Moreira & Flora Purim. Japans JAZZ LIFE called Wainapel A musician with his own unique and deep sound. Trumpeter MIKE OLMOS has become one the most in demand jazz musicians since his arrival to the San Francisco Bay Area. His great versatility has led to performances with Andrew Speight, Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy, Adam Shulman, Charles McNeal, Carla Bley/Steve Swallow Big Big Band, Taj Mahal, the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra, Pete Escovedo, Rebeca MauleĆ³n, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Wil Blades, Jesus Diaz y su QBA and Josh Jones.
Pianist MATT CLARKs performance credits include: saxophonists Eric Alexander, Vincent Herring, Teddy Edwards, Mark Turner, Frank Morgan, Sheldon Brown and Andrew Speight; vibraphonists Bobby Hutcherson and Stefon Harris; vocalists Madeline Eastman, Kellye Gray, Paula West and Denise Perrier; Matt was a founding memeber of the Marcus Shelby Trio.
JOHN WIITALA is a freelance bassist, active in the Bay Area Jazz scene since the 1980s. He's played and recorded with Joe Henderson, James Moody, Benny Golson, Dick Hyman, Charles McPherson Bruce Forman, Mark Levine's Latin Tinge, Jessica Williams, Bill Bell, Wesla Whitfield and Mike Greensill, Scott Hamilton, Jackie Ryan, Rebecca Kilgore, Ed Reed, Erik Jekabson, Adam Shulman, Patrick Wolff, Randy Porter and Nancy King.
JON ARKIN is a versatile drummer/percussionist who is known for his performances & recorded work in a wide variety of musical contexts. In addition to leading his own groups, he has performed with jazz greats such as Lee Konitz, Gene Perla, and Ira Sullivan, with singer-songwriters including Stew and Meklit Hadero, Afrobeat bands Albino and Soji Odukogbe, and a multitude of experimental/new music collaborators including Ben Goldberg and Nathan Clevenger.
