Join us for an Art In Alleyways Bicycle Tour. Like a Nooks and Crannies tour of Minneapolis, Christian Huelsman of Minneapolis Alley Initiative for Neighborhood Stimulation (MAINS) will lead a guided tour of public art in alleys by bicycle. Public art is all around us, but sometimes hidden from regular view. If you missed the tour last Fall, we are pleased to offer a reprise. Participants will traverse the Whittier, Lyndale, Powderhorn and Phillips communities, viewing an eclectic offering of alley artworks! This is an easy ride designed for most experience levels. It will cover about ten miles. Bring your own bike or rent one from Nice Ride; bring along a helmet. Bicyclists will meet in the museum parking lot at noon. In case of rain, the tour will take place on Sunday, April 7, 2019.
Christian Huelsman is the founder of the Minneapolis Alley Initiative for Neighborhood Stimulation (MAINS), an advocacy program promoting public alleys as walkable urban corridors. MAINS advocates for safer, more vibrant walking experiences, uncovering opportunities in the untapped potential of alley spaces, using the lenses of tactical urbanism, public art, and historic preservation. Christian holds a B.A. in urban planning from the University of Cincinnati.
