Event
"The Last Croissant"
Once online sales have ended, there will be a minimum of 20 tickets available at the box office one hour before show time.
This event will present the World Premier of Veronica Tijoe's "The Last Croissant." MCT's New Works Night provides an opportunity for a local playwright to showcase their work thru a dramatic reading. A cast will be assembled to present the play.
Though only Veronica Tijoe's second work, it embodies what her colleagues have dubbed her distinctive "clown tragedy" aesthetic. An experiment in minimalism and magical realism, it follows the events of a short weekend in a crowded campground. But what is it about? Fortunes. Bears. Fire. Cranes. The loneliness of teatime. And that time when you were saving something, and you didn't enjoy it soon enough.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Veronica Tjioe spent her undergraduate years at UC Santa Cruz focusing on acting, improvisation, and costume construction. She performed in twelve plays during her four years including Shakespeare Santa Cruz's touring "to-go" production of "Twelfth Night" as Viola. She continued her education as a graduate banana slug and a member of the inaugural class of Masters in Theatre Arts where she emphasized in playwriting. Her first play, "Dead Dog's Bone: A Birthday Play", garnered the Dharma Grace Award and was produced in full last fall. Her gracious faculty adviser, Professor Jim Bierman, thereafter challenged her to write a linear play which ultimately became her thesis project, "The Last Croissant".
