Event
William Golding and the Bachelor
This performance is the culmination of a weeklong workshop in which eleven young actors will develop a script that incorporates found text from the television show, The Bachelor, into an hour long live theatre work. The youth will question the structure of the television show and the gender, class and race stereotypes presented by reworking the original script and imagining different endings to the parameters set forth by the program. Each participant will be an actor, director and writer.
The performance itself will be divided into three parts. In the first the last season of the Bachelor will be condensed into a 15 minute script. The youth will have the opportunity to play any character they like and to switch characters as the play progresses. In the second part all the youth will play the same character in a series of monologues. In the third part the youth will invent a new and fantastical ending to the program for its season finale in which anything will be possible. Perhaps giant spiders will land from Mars or everyone will turn into Muppets.
