The Tacoma Farmers Market Board presents the Banquet of Bounty on Friday, October 11, 2013. The Banquet is an annual fundraising dinner that connects our community to our farms. The event encourages us to remember that our vibrant cultural and agricultural heritage is alive and well in Pierce County and beyond. As the Tacoma Farmers Market approaches 25 years, the local food offered at Banquet of Bounty will remind you that farming has helped grow our regional economy for over a hundred years-and that we are fortunate to have such a bounty of diverse farms and products in our own backyard.
Dinner will be prepared by Chef Matt Stickle of The Bite at Hotel Murano. Chef Matt will craft the menu using the finest ingredients of the season sourced from our market vendors and other local family farms. This event will also feature locally-made desserts, which will be auctioned off during the Dessert Dash, and a wine wall full of fine Washington blends for purchase.
Special guest, Molly Wizenberg, Seattle-area author of the Orangette blog and the book, A Homemade Life, will share her thoughts on the wealth of foods from our region. (http://orangette.blogspot.com/)
Proceeds from the event go towards keeping vendor fees affordable for all farmers and producers and to provide funds for market capacity-building. Near and future goals of Tacoma Farmers Market include providing weekly chef demonstrations at all markets, expanding educational offerings at South Tacoma-from canning and gardening seminars to eating healthy on a budget, and creating increased opportunity for all Tacoma neighborhoods to access to healthy, local food.
