Slavyanka: the Russian Soul in Song
Slavyanka Bay Area Men's Russian Chorus Presents
"The Slavic Soul in Song"
7:30pm Saturday July 27 at Sonoma's First Congregational Church
Slavyanka's new Artistic Director Irina Schachneva has created an exciting program of old and new Russian choral music, ranging from ancient chants and folk songs to modern works by Rachmaninoff and other notable composers. Celebrating 200 years of Russian presence in California, Slavyanka's program of sacred, composed, and folk music from Russia and Eastern Europe features many new pieces, including several that date from the early 1800's, when Fort Ross was built just north of the Russian River a river which early Russian explorers named the "Slavyanka."
