Akabane Vulgars W/ Boss Fight and The Voluptuals at the Red Line Tap
THE AKABANE VULGARS ON STRONG BYPASS mix a power rhythm section with rockabilly, blues inspired guitar. Sonically alongside Social Distortion and Thee Michelle Gun Elephant; in 2012, they performed at SXSW, released a CD, and returned for 30 shows in the U.S. In 2013 the band announced a double release of a live and a studio CD. The band continues to tour rigorously.
In 2005, bassist Miki Uchizono began seeking members for her band. The search for a great power drummer began and ended with her high school classmate, Kei Sofue. The only missing piece was a singer-guitarist that could match the explosive rhythm section. As fate would have it, Miki's sister Yumi Uchizono would complete the band with her bluesy rock guitar and soulful, compelling vocals.
Originally performing works by the wide ranging artists that inspired them such as The Beatles, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant and Green Day, the band wanted to add to their explosive rhythms, subjects that would connect to their audience both sonically and lyrically. Singer/Guitarist Yumi began to pen the lyrics that would allow her to reach deep and emotionally match her vocals to the band's driving, bluesy, guitar rock.
In 2011, the band was a stand out during the Tokyo Boot Up, Tokyo's answer to SXSW or MIDEM. Next, the band crossed the Pacific and took the stage at SXSW 2012. Again the band took its rightful place as part of the Japan Nite Showcase in Austin. Returning home, The Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass were again invited to the Tokyo Boot Up the following month. Still, with unfinished business in the United States, the band embarked upon a 30 date U.S. Tour coinciding with the worldwide release of their CD and a showcase set at San Francisco's J-POP SUMMIT followed by headlining the event's after party.
With12,000 miles on the road between New York and California, the band entered the studio to record, mix and master their next release "Proclamation." It was part of a double release along with "Live in Brooklyn" recorded on their tour in early 2013. The band will also resume an active promotional tour schedule.
