The Bacchae - HARD BARD!
One of the greatest Greek tragedies, The Bacchae follows the god Dionysus and his revenge upon the ruling family of Thebes. They don't believe Dionysus is really a god, and ban all worship of him. Just because his mother was a mortal that Zeus had an affair with.
As a god, Dionysus feels he deserves to be worshiped, and so sets out to get his revenge on the King of Thebes. First, he creates some Maenads - wild women who, among other things, dance drunkenly in the woods. And dismember and devour those who disturb them. One of these women is the King's mom. Dionysus goes to party with these women, and sends his followers go into Thebes to sing his praises.
The King finds Dionysus (who has disguised himself as a mortal) and thinking he has found the leader of the cult, tosses him in jail. Dionysus promptly destroys the jail and most of the palace with lighting and a massive earthquake.
Hearing reports that the Maenads are getting a bit out of control, the King orders them destroyed. But Dionysus convinces him that he should go observe the women in person before taking drastic action... and that he should go dressed as a woman. Which he does.
Will the King of Thebes survive this kinky encounter with the mad Maenads? Come find out this fall!
