Double Play
DOUBLE PLAY features CALLED HOME BY THE SEA, a full-length dramatic romance in one act combined with a feast of farces with an accent on England, BRIT TWIST.

CALLED HOME BY THE SEA is a world premiere drama set in the 1950's that combines realism with a hint of magic. This story of a young girl and her war-widow mother explores themes of love, loss, growing up, and beginning again. When twelve-year-old Annie gets into mischief in the East End of London, her mother, Molly, takes a job as cook in the Cornish town of St. Just-in-Penwith. Annie is at first not thrilled with her new home, nor with the innkeeper, Ben Treleyn, who seems rather taken with her mother. Then, she befriends Nora Grenlow, a reclusive old woman who lives in a stone cottage on the cliff edge by the sea.  What secret is Nora keeping about her past marriage to the late Captain Grenlow? Is Nora really a mermaid, or is that just an idea from a childs dreams?  And, when it comes to love, does the heart always know where it best belongs?

BRIT TWIST features a feast of farces.

1. For the first course, enjoy Pete Blatchfords new adaptation of the short story, THE OPEN WINDOW, by Saki. Follow the unexpected exploits of the mild-mannered mushroom collector, Framton, as he heads by train into the idyllic countryside of England for a cure for his nerves only to find that others have a different idea of what might be best for him.

2. Savor a second course, in this world premiere of ROUNDELAY, by Mike Brayndick. This rollicking farce featuring the former production team of a British telly mystery series reunited by the joyfully diabolical actor Amelia, who wants to do good in her own fashion. These two pieces make for a light-hearted and satisfying treat of comedy for a Saturday afternoon in Spring.

You can attend both performances on one lovely spring day and evening.  Or, if you prefer, you can choose your own time for each production, a Saturday matinee, and a weekend evening show, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, any time during the course of the run!

Once you purchase your DOUBLE PLAY tickets, you will be able to select specific CALLED HOME BY THE SEA and BRIT TWIST performance times April 4 - April 27.
