Balkan Dance Night with Trio Tsuica and Kef
Were moving the tables out to make room for a Balkan dance party with Portland's Trio Tsuica and Kef from Eugene. The evening will feature high-energy traditional music from Eastern Europe for dancing or just listening -- wherever your mood and your feet take you. Instruction in some easy dances will be provided at the beginning of the concert.
The versatile Eugene sextet Kef appears in their all-brass configuration, bringing the tight trumpet harmonies and rhythmic horn and drum accompaniment of the Balkan Romani (Gypsy) and Macedonian Greek brass bands.
Trio Tsuica, Portlands only four-member trio, plays music of Romania, Hungary, and nearby countries on violin, accordion, bass, and cimbalom, the hammered dulcimers overgrown East European cousin. The group takes its name from the homemade plum brandy of Romania. Like the spirit, the music will bring fire to your heart, a dance to your toes, and a smile to your face!
