Forgotten Prison: Behind the Scenes with KNKX's Simone Alicea and Paula Wissel
KNKX's "Forgotten Prison" six-part series delved into the history of the now-abandoned McNeil Island prison in South Puget Sound with stories of inmates, guards and children who grew up on the island. This forgotten place speaks to how and why we lock people up. "Forgotten Prison" was produced in partnership with the Washington State Historical Society. On April 11 from 7-8 p.m., KNKX reporters Simone Alicea and Paula Wissel--hosts, writers and producers of the series--will present Forgotten Prison: Behind the Scenes in the auditorium at the Washington State History Museum. Through photos and audio, Simone and Paula will pull back the curtain on "Forgotten Prison" and also touch on stories they weren't able to include in the series. The event is free and open to the public. Doors to the auditorium open at 6:30 p.m.
Want to learn more about McNeil while you're at Washington State History Museum for the event? You'll have free access to the "Unlocking McNeil's Past: The Prison, The Place, The People" exhibit (on now through May 26, 2019) from 5:30-7 p.m. and directly following the event from 8-9 p.m.
The Washington State History Museum is located at 1911 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma. The auditorium is located on level 2. Doors for this event open at 6:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact KNKX Listener Services at 877-677-5659 or info@knkx.org. See you there!
