In Good Spirits
How do we shape the places that we live? What energy flows through a place, where does it begin and where does it end? What are the systems, buildings, places that nurture us?
Over the past two years James Tyson, Director of International Agatha Christie Festival, and Alex McLean, co-Artistic Director of Canada's Zuppa Theatre, began to think about their two very different seaside towns Torbay and Halifax, Nova Scotia. In these two places, they began by asking the rather unlikely question: "How does health-care and urban planning shape our relationship to the places we call home?"
This began a journey which delved through history, how towns are built and re-built, and the stories to be found.
In Good Spirits is a gathering with guest speakers from across the fields of urban design, cultural history, theatre and dance performance. Through illustrated histories and performed stories, this one-off event is a space to reflect on the places we live in and how we keep our individual and collective spirits in good order.
Presented as part of Torbay Cultures Eyeview in association with International Agatha Christie Festivals year-round "Come, Tell Me How You Live" programme, supported by Arts Council England. Zuppa Theatre is supported by The Canada Council for the Arts and the Halifax Professional Arts Grants Program. In Good Spirits is a prelude to Vista, an "ambient theatre" performance due to take place in Torbay this September.
All ages welcome, but more suitable for adults.
Refreshments included.
