18 Reasons welcomes chef Andrew Feinberg and his wife Francine Stephens, owners of the famed Franny's restaurant in Brooklyn (home to what Alice Waters calls "the best pizza in New York"). Known not only for their pizza, but also their inspired approach to vegetables, they'll join us for a course dedicated to the best of summer farmers market bounty. In this two-hour course, Andrew and Francine (who together are credited as founding members of Brooklyn's local food movement) will speak to the importance of eating seasonally. Andrew will teach you to make three inspired composed salads that can stand on their own against a main course. You'll walk away with a new appreciation for how satisfying a salad can be, as well as a signed copy of their new cookbook, FRANNY'S: Simple Seasonal Italian (Artisan Books, June 2013).
Andrew Feinberg and Francine Stephens are the owners of Franny's, Bklyn Larder, and the soon-to-open Marco's in Brooklyn, NY. For Andrew and Francine, great food and sound ecological practices go hand in hand. Andrew brings this ethos to the table with a respect for season and place and a commitment to cooking food in a way that's "true to where it comes from," and Francine's background in sustainable food advocacy underlies everything they do. Their first cookbook, FRANNY'S: Simple Seasonal Italian was published by Artisan Books in June 2013 and is a greatest-hits collection of their favorite dishes over the restaurant's nearly decade-long history. Andrew and Francine live in Brooklyn with their children, Prue and Marco.
