Music in the Chapel: Tony Hauser, Latin Classical Guitar
You're invited to enjoy classical Latin-American music from Tony Hauser in the historic Lakewood Chapel on Sunday, May 5.
Award-winning guitarist Tony Hauser performs intricately beautiful classical guitar pieces from composers such as Manuel M. Ponce, Antonio Lauro and Isaac Albeniz, among others, as well as his own flamenco compositions. His performances have been broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio and National Public Radio and he has played locally at the Guthrie Theatre, Walker Art Center, MN Sinfonia, Mill City Opera and more.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Doors open early at 2 p.m. so you can take a self-guided tour of the Lakewood Memorial Chapel before the show (free tour brochures will be available).
The Lakewood Chapel -- one of our city's most beloved architectural treasures -- is an intimate setting that seats about 160 people. Because of its incredible beauty and historical significance, it is a popular place for weddings, end-of-life services, music concerts and other celebrations of beauty, art and remembrance.
Dedicated in 1910, the Lakewood Chapel was modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul by prominent Minneapolis architect Harry Wild Jones. Its 10-million piece mosaic interior, created by New York designer Charles Lamb, features a 40-foot high dome ringed with stained glass windows and 12 mosaic angels. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Chapel is one of the finest examples of Byzantine mosaic architecture in the country. Questions?
