Celtic Community Night with Avery Bergstrom and Anton Emery
In the month of April we are pleased to welcome Avery Bergstrom and Anton Emery to the Artichoke stage. These two brilliant musicians combine the magical sound of fingerpicked guitars and the occasional banjo to perform the instrumental music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany. Traditional airs, jigs, and reels combine with ancient harp tunes and Breton dances as they create a unique and beautiful listening experience for the audience. Following the performance will be an open traditional music session. All instruments, voices, and dancing shoes welcomed!
As always their performance will be followed by an open traditional music, song, and dance session. All are welcome to participate and listen. Tickets are sold in advance at BrownPaperTickets.com or at the door on a sliding scale of $5-15.
About the Performers: Avery and Anton met at the Portland Guitar Society and connected over their enjoyment of traditional guitarists such as Martin Simpson, Tony Mcmanus, and Steve Baughman. They started collaborating and quickly came up with a body of material, taking advantage of two guitars to weave a spell of harmony, counterpoint, and rhythmic interplay.
Anton Emery got into celtic music while attending college at Florida State University. He then spent many consecutive years at the Swannanoa Gathering Guitar Week in Asheville North Carolina, which allowed him to study under some of the players he most admired.
Avery Bergstom hails from Hood River and was originally drawn to the acoustic guitar by Travis pickers like John Fahey and Tommy Emmanuel. He dove deep into celtic music after hearing Martin Simpson, and his mastery of these two styles shows in his driving and fluid playing.
