Susie Burke & David Surette, with Kent Allyn present O Canada! Songs from the Great Canadian Singer/Songwriters
Our good neighbor to the north Canada has produced some of the greatest singer songwriters, such as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Ferron, Robbie Robertson (The Band) and Stan Rogers, just to name a few! Susie and David first performed this show back in both 2011 and 2012, as one of the many collaborative shows they developed during an eight-year run of Cabin Fever winter concerts in Rollinsford. O Canada! was one of the most popular ever, and we are very excited to be bringing it to you again at The Dance Hall, one of the Seacoasts premiere listening rooms.
For this show, as on the previous O Canada! concerts, Susie & David will be joined by their old trail buddy Kent Allyn on piano, bass, and electric guitar, for a memorable evening of the very best of Canadian singer/songwriters, encompassing folk and rock, contemporary and traditional, roots and branches.
Burke and Surette have been an essential part of the New England folk music community for years. They have collaborated with many of the regions top musicians, and performed in all sorts of settings, including concerts, clubs, coffeehouses, festivals, fairs, churches, and schools. They are both instrumental and vocal teachers, and have taught regularly over the years as part of their musical world, both in private lessons, group classes, and in many music weekends and summer music camps. David is head of the Concord Community Music Schools folk programming, and is also artistic director of their March Mandolin Festival. They have also raised two lovely and very musical daughters, with whom they make rare and eagerly-anticipated appearances as the Burke/Surette Family Band; their eldest, Isa, is a part of the Boston-based trio Lula Wiles, while their youngest, Julianna, is co-director of her Bowdoin College a capella group, Miscellania.
Kent Allyn is an accompanist and studio musician, as well as a key sideman for several groups and songwriters including Ben Baldwin & the Big Note (since 1976), Susie Burke & David Surette, Cosy Sheridan, Harvey Reid and Joyce Andersen, Cormac McCarthy and Julie Snow. His bass, piano, and electric guitar work have been heard on recordings of the above musicians and others. At Berwick Academy since 1989, he teaches private lessons on guitar, piano and electric bass. When not involved in playing or teaching music he can be found in a recreational rowing shell or sailing a peapod on Pepperrell Cove in Kittery Point, ME. He says his only claim to fame is having had piano lessons with Steven Tyler's grandmother, Constance Mrs. T. Tallarico.
