Rhonda Robichaux Bio
Rhonda Robichaux taps into her Swampy/Sultry/Spicy New Orleans roots with a mix of blues, swing, samba, jazz, funk, soul, and originals. Rhonda Robichaux Band won the 2012 Triangle Blues Challenge [representing Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill] and then went on to compete in the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. [Review from Raleigh Music Industry Association: "... Robichauxs voice is in your face emotional and her range and control are certainly part of her major strengths, strengths which are numerous. Considered a pioneer woman in the war to break into the Blues, Rhonda has obviously won big battles! The band is bold and brazenly rhythm and blues and soul and the combination fits like a glove. ... an eerily mystical New Orleans-based blues sound and at times I had visions of Dr. John and Elvin Bishop sitting in with Etta James and Marie Knight. The original song Better and another original called Aint Nothin' brought down the house and must have won over the judges as the Rhonda Robichaux Band took home first prize in the band division." Robichaux's distinct vocals and innovative guitar, intriguing vamp on classics/standards, and soul-baring originals conjure up an atmosphere of smoky cool.... funkified jazz/blues/rock stylings enhance and drive the music experience ~ from slow and gritty to uptempo dance grooves. Band includes various select musicians on keys, horns, harmonica, bass, drums. Rhonda Robichaux, New Orleans native, re-located to the Triangle area in 2000. She has shared the stage with New Orleans artists Papa Grows Funk, George Porter, Jr., Charmaine Neville, as well as Claudette King (B.B.'s daughter!), Will McFarlane (toured with Bonnie Raitt), Cool John Ferguson, Harvey Dalton Arnold, Mel Melton, Shana K. Tucker, Brevan Hampden. As a soloist as well as with her band ~ her music captivates with haunting intimacy ~ commanding, engaging ~ unmistakable and undeniable rawness. https://www.reverbnation.com/rhondarobichaux
