ADA Related Lawsuits: What to Know

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) creates multiple triggers for lawsuits against Architects and owners. Knowing the triggers and scope of such lawsuits may aid Architects in avoiding such suits and advising their clients to do the same. Attendees will review a broad range of ADA related suits and discuss what to do if you or a client get involved or sued.

Joshua A. Cohen, Esq., has been with the law firm of Collins, Collins, Muir + Stewart since 2006. CCM+S regularly represents architects and other designers sued in all manner of construction related disputes. Mr. Cohen has experience defending architects sued for ADA issues which range from cases where the ADA issues are minor defects in a long list of other construction defects, to litigation based entirely upon the existence of ADA barriers in new construction. Mr. Cohen also has experience representing property owners sued by the handicapped seeking to assert rights under Cal.
