Capital District Scottish Games
The Schenectady Pipe Band Celebrates its 42nd Year of Presenting the Capital District Scottish Games on Saturday August 31, 2019 and Sunday September 1, 2019.

The Scottish Games is 2 days of Scottish celebration complete with Caber tossing, Scottish Cuisine and one of the Nation's Largest Pipe Band competitions.
The annual Capital District Scottish Games started as a picnic organized by Clan MacRae for immigrant Scots in 1939 and were held at Turn Verin Park on Hetcheltown Rd in Scotia. By the 1950's they moved to Locomotive Park in Schenectady, and the band competition was attracting 12 bands. In 1978, the Schenectady Pipe Band took on the task of organizing the Games, and the attendance grew to 8,000, with 25 bands competing.
The Games are now celebrated by 12,000 enthusiastic spectators, who come early to see the opening massed pipes and drums at 12 Noon and stay to watch the caber toss, highland dancing, visit the clan tents, see the Scottish Breed Dog show and watch Celtic entertainment in the huge entertainment tent. It's a great family day, and children 12 and under are admitted free.
The Schenectady Pipe Band, a Capital Region tradition since 1917, has been presenting the Games for the past 42 years, and this year will feature 35 pipe bands from throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. The Games will be held on August 31st & September 1st, 2019 (Labor Day weekend) at the Altamont Fairgrounds. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the www.scotgames.com website.
