BIANCA LEIGH - STORIES II
Stories of Bianca's childhood, recent years in Brooklyn and the fire that changed her life. Growing up a trans kid in the 60s was a trip. Liberation was everywhere, but alarms still went off when a kid reached for the wrong toy. Bianca shares humorous and poignant stories of her early days in Willingboro, NJ, the events of last year's house fire that left her homeless, noting her life's marked pattern of sudden loss and rebirth (How many times have we, as Trans women, had to start over from absolute scratch?), and memories of Frankie Cocktail, her partner behind the bar at Lips for over a decade.
BIANCA LEIGH is an actress, singer, and writer. Miss Leigh's roles include Waxy Bush in MTC's THE NAP on Broadway, Mary Ellen in TRANSAMERICA, Franny Halcyon in the ACT workshop of TALES OF THE CITY THE MUSICAL, Tatiana in Paul Lucas TRANS SCRIPTS at ART, Karma Johnstone in HURRICANE BIANCA, and Dr. Rachel Sandow on LAW & ORDER: SVU. Bianca wrote and performed her solo musical BUSTED, at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Her play, MBJrT, was part of this spring's Monday Night Playwright Series at Kansas City Rep. She will be featured in Laverne Cox's upcoming documentary, DISCLOSURE.
"Nothing prepared me for the protean talents of Leigh, who adds to the rubber-faced gestures of a Charles Busch an even deeper level of nuance." - Edge New York
"A pitch-perfect balance of archness and compassion." - Edge Boston
"The beauteous Bianca Leigh has emerged in recent years as New York's leading transsexual thespian, bringing authority and a classical mien to such pieces as Taylor Mac's The Lily's Revenge and Theatre Askew's I, Claudius---not to mention projects with major downtown artists like Young Jean Lee and the Talking Band." - Time Out NY.
