Bill Staines has written over 300 songs, many of which have been recorded by the likes of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Makem and Clancy, Nanci Griffith, Glen Yarborough, and Jerry Jeff Walker. He is also one of only a few songwriters to have eight songs published in the Rise Up Singing songbook. Staines continues to perform more than 175 shows a year and drives close to 70,000 miles getting to them.
Cowboys, Yukon adventurers, fisherman, truckers, and everyday working people ... these are the characters who populate the songs of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Bill Staines. They come to life through lovely, infectious melodies and lyrics that evoke a remarkably strong sense of place. His songs such as River, Roseville Fair, My Sweet Wyoming Home, and (All Gods Critters Got) A Place in the Choir have earned him a dedicated following at folk gatherings around the country.
"Bill Staines carries on where Woody left off the tradition of stories and characters you wish you knew," says musician Nanci Griffith.
I remember the first time I heard Bill Staines at a festival and was struck by how his songs sounded so familiar, as if I had known them all my life. Composer David Amram once described Staines as a modern day Stephen Foster. His music will be around a hundred years from now.

Special Guests: Terry Kitchen & Mara Levine
Together, Terry Kitchen & Mara Levine perform an intoxicating mixture of powerful original songs and choice covers, all featuring their unique blend of folk harmony.
In early 2008, Boston-based singer/songwriter Terry Kitchen had a gig in his home state of New Jersey, where he heard Mara Levine sing harmony with each of the other two acts. Kitchen was both impressed and jealous, and told her how much he enjoyed her singing. She promptly offered to back him up next time he was in the area. After a warm up set at the Minstrel Coffeehouse's open mic, they debuted together in April 2008 at the People's Voice Cafe in NYC. They have since performed as a duo at Godfrey Daniels, the Borderline Folk Club, the Buttonwood Tree, and the Place and Musical Lairs house concerts, released a duo CD, and appeared on each other's solo CDs.
TERRY KITCHEN's songs are portraits of ordinary people and emotions, captured with extraordinary compassion, honesty and humor. He's released ten CDs since the 1990s, and performed on folk stages across the U.S. and Canada including Club Passim, the Postcrypt Coffeehouse, Cafe Lena, the Bluebird Cafe, and the Falcon Ridge, Telluride, Vermont Solarfest, and South Florida folk festivals. His 2009 CD Summer to Snowflakes reached #27 on the national Folk-DJ airplay chart, and was named Best Solo CD in Limelight Magazine's 2010 Readers' Poll. Kitchen's songs have won the USA Songwriting Competition and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and been runner up in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. His 2013 music novel Next Big Thing, based on his experiences with his '80s band Loose Ties, was called "a great debut novel" by the San Francisco Book Review. More on Terry at www.terrykitchen.com
MARA LEVINE has been creating beautiful interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk songs for many years and singing professionally since 2002. The album was also on the official Grammy nomination ballot for Best Folk Album of 2013, and Cover Lay Down named it the #4 cover album of the year. Her debut CD Mara's Gems (a reference to both her music and her jewelry making) was #52 on the Folk-DJ chart, and she also has two Folk-DJ #1 singles to her credit, including her melodic version of Paul Simon's "Leaves That Are Green." She has performed at Swallow Hill in Denver, the WFMT Folkstage in Chicago, the Folk Project Festival, the Good Coffeehouse, the Strawberry Festival, the Great South Bay Music Festival, the Muses in the Vineyard Festival, the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Club, and the Minstrel Coffeehouse.
