Free The Beasts Community Dance Extravaganza
Free The Beasts Community Dance Extravaganza celebrates its seventh year! Proceeds of this nonprofit production go towards the Arts Education programs in the public schools of Humboldt County.
Since 2013, Free the Beasts has brought the dance community together for a performance that has become a local favorite. Under The Ink People's 555 Contemporary Dance Company, directed by Stephanie Carter, Free The Beasts invites all dancers from every studio, school, style, and level to bring their works to the stage. It began as a platform for choreographers to showcase their works that wouldn't otherwise fit in any other production. Free The Beasts consists of Dance Artists who have been silenced or restricted in their art form. It has created an environment for the dancers of Humboldt to come tell their stories and show the community who they truly are.
This year will showcase the works of many returning choreographers - Lela Anotto, Laura Ayllon with Sassafras Belly Dance Company, Carrie Badeaux with Sundance Ballet Company, Rosie Sharkey, Isadora Sharon, Alexandra Stock, Ya Habibi Dance Company, Susie Kidd, Jane Zinsius, Yenoula and the Rockin' Rubies, Julie Hayes with Bailando Dance Company, and Stephanie Carter with 555 Contemporary Dance Company. New contributors to the production this year include Melody Collver with North Coast Dance, Ginger Greenlee, Rachel Sanders, Ania Vogel, Kapua Nolan, Brittney Christensen with The Dance Scene's Scene Team, Tatiana Robinson, Marissa Gilbert, Anne Schomus with the Academy of Irish Dance, Sehonna Divine and Kimberly Paulo.
