Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show, now in its 11th year. Produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and taking place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District, it showcases an eclectic mix of intelligent comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. Geduldig created the event in 2008 order to bring back to life a comedy show that used to take place in the 1980s and 1990s at El Rio.
The Friday March 15th show features Joe Klocek, Kurt Weitzmann, Priyanka Wali, Ian Williams, and Lisa Geduldig.
Joe Klocek is a square peg in a round hole sort of guy, raised a Midwesterner, so he has manners, but living in San Francisco for 20 years. He does two things great: tells stories and talks to the crowd. He did a two-month "comic in residency" at the first comedy club in Shanghai where he recorded an album exclusively for the ex-pat community living and laughing there. He has been featured on NPR's "Snap Judgment" and on Comedy Centrals "Live at Gotham," "Last Comic Standing," and was commentator for the Emmy award-winning documentary "A Bridge so Far." Co-creator of the critically acclaimed storytelling show "Previously Secret Information," Joe has also been a runner-up in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition and the "Seattle Comedy Competition and was voted "Best Comic" in the 2011 SF Weekly Readers Poll. Joe has performed at every major comedy club in the country including Alaska.
Kurt Weitzmann was a finalist in the 2015 San Francisco Comedy Competition, has appeared on Comedy Central and commanded numerous appearances in SF Sketchfest and The Vancouver Comedy Festival. Kurt has also written, produced and performed numerous shows at The HBO Workspace and the The Comedy Central Stage. Kurt is an award-winning playwright and filmmaker and his documentary #BeRobin The Movie, about Margaret Chos homeless outreach campaign inspired by the philanthropy of Robin Williams, won two Best of Festival awards in 2016. His play, Win a Few, Lose a Few, won the California Playwrights Competition in 2017. His new film, The Good Bus is available to stream at www.boilingfrogentertainment.com/films
