Friends of the Plains Annual Dinner
The annual Friends dinner will be held Friday, April 26, 2019. We will begin at 6 p.m. with a hosted reception in the KSTC Ballroom on the second floor of the ESU Memorial Union followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m. and a presentation by Kevin Willmott.
Oscar nominated filmmaker Kevin Willmott is a native Kansan and a professor of film at the University of Kansas. Hes the co-writer of BlacKkKlansman, a Spike Lee film that has received six nominations for this years Academy Awards.
In 2018, Wilmott also directed an independent film about Emporias William Allen White, Whats the Matter with Kansas. The film aims at re-introducing the Sage of Emporia to a new generation. Its narrated by broadcast journalist Bill Kurtis.
As a director, Willmott has 11 films to his credit, including The Battle for Bunker Hill, Jayhawker, and CSA: The Confederate States of America. He is also an actor and producer.
Willmott grew up in Junction City and received a BA in Drama from Marymount College and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University.
