The Ladles
The Ladles have three part female harmony perfected - but their sound is more than that They are an amalgamation of their respective histories and influences, blending Swing, Old-Time, Motown and Choral music into a sound all their own. Using solely acoustic instrumentation and three voices, they create a dreamy otherworldly atmosphere that draws audiences in and demands attention. They quiet noisy bars and liven up staid concert halls. The Ladles are Katie Martucci, Caroline Kuhn, and Lucia Purpura-Pontoniere.
Katie Martucci (guitar, vocals and fiddle), Caroline Kuhn (tenor banjo and vocals) and Lucia Purpura-Pontoniere (fiddle and vocals) met at the New England Conservatory of Musics Contemporary Improvisation program. After discovering their shared love of harmony (and knitting) they decided to form a band. All three are songwriters and performers in their own right, but together they create a unique sound influenced by their backgrounds in traditional folk, jazz, Motown, and choral music. Their songs feature a combination of rich harmony, traditional acoustic instrumentation and distinctive arrangements. Recently featured in the Boston Folk Song Societys Youth Traditional Song & Tune Showcase, The Ladles are excited to develop a presence in the Boston folk scene.
