The Pennsylvania Firefly Festival (PAFF) will provide 2-nights of firefly programs, Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 at the Tionesta Recreation Area Campground Outflow Pavilion and is specifically for Campers in the Tionesta Recreation Area Campgrounds and Outflow Campground. PRE-REGISTRATION is REQUIRED for this site's program. $5 per person. NO ON-SITE registration is available.
PAFF volunteers will meet registered participants at 9:30 pm at the pavilion to provide a short informational program each night. Then, when the time is just right... guides will help locate, observe and identify the fireflies in that location. Space is limited to minimize impact and ensure a good experience for everyone.
Campers are asked to walk and meet at the Outflow pavilion of the Recreation Area. If you cannot walk the distance and/or choose to drive, park in the Pavilion parking areas.
Participants are encouraged to bring camp chairs or walking sticks. All participants should dress appropriately for the weather and a night in the forest. Long sleeves, pants and sturdy footwear are highly recommended. Families are welcome. Flashlights should be covered with a red/blue filter. Pets, cell phones and flash photography are discouraged.
The programs are "Rain or Shine" events, but fireflies are highly sensitive to the cold and do not fly if the nighttime temperatures fall below 50 degrees. In the event of severe storms, the firefly viewing will be suspended. PAFF is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Proceeds benefit the organization's mission to educate and raise awareness about all the fireflies in NW Pennsylvania. There are no refunds or rainchecks for these events.
