Bibliophilia Storytelling Festival
Bibliophilia is about bringing the page to the stage. Each event at this festival is unique, combining poetry and prose with improvisational theatre in order to illuminate the world of words. Join us April 19-21st at Hugo House for a lit loving festival like no other!
Don't miss out on a single event! Each and every show at Bibliophilia is different, not to mention jam-packed with Seattle's best and brightest.
Here is a list of the events:
FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH
BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND END ---Showtime: 7pm, doors at 6:30pm--- Beginning, Middle, and End is a story told in three parts one in prose, one in theatre, and one in poetry. An author will read an excerpt of their work. Afterward, the Bibliophilia Players (our group of improvisational actors), never hearing the work before, will bring those characters to life and continue the story. Lastly, a local poet, who has been watching the story the whole time, will conclude the tale with a piece that they create on the spot.
Our special guests for this event are Donna Miscolta reading prose and Jalayna creating poetry
HEATHCLIFF LETTERS ---Showtime: 8:30pm, doors at 8pm--- Its time to cram! You remember your school days book reports and pop quizzes, dont you wish you had a better way to study all the classics? Well at this show, you will learn everything you ever need to know about great literature without cracking a book.
Shout out the title of a novel youve always wanted to read, and sit back and enjoy as the Bibliophilia Players, our group of improvisational actors, give you the Heathcliff Letters version.
SATURDAY, APRIL 20TH
BASED ON A TRUE STORY: A LIVE MEMOIR ---Showtime: 7pm, doors at 6:30pm--- This is where true stories come to life. We invite one very brave audience member to share a true story from their actual life. Then the audience member alongside the Bibliophilia Players, our company of improvisational actors, will recreate the memory as a best-selling book adaptation. Think Seabiscuit or Titanic: the story is mostly true, but some of the events are a little embellished. This show relives memories and turns them into epic glories.
POETRY VERSE PLAY: FEATURING AMBER FLAME ---Showtime: 8:30pm, doors at 8pm--- Art doesnt imitate life at this show, art imitates art. First, Hugo House Writer-in-Resident Amber Flame will share one of her poems. After the reading, the Bibliophilia Players, our team of improvisational actors, never hearing the poem before, will perform a one-act play inspired by the piece.
SUNDAY, APRIL 21ST
WORD LIT ZINE QUIZ SHOW! ---Showtime: 7pm, doors at 6:30pm--- What better way to close Bibliophilia than with an event by the producer/creator of the festival, Word Lit Zine! Seattles best magazine for all things literary comes off the page and into reality. There will be live readings from past contributors and new friends as well as puzzles and games for the nerd in all of us. Contestants will be volunteers from the audience and will have an opportunity to win amazing prize packages. Come ready to nerd out with the Word Lit Zine Quiz Show!
All events at Bibliophilia are sponsored by Word Lit Zine in co-production with Hugo House.
About Word Lit Zine: Word Lit Zine is a quarterly publication for readers and writers. Our goal is to give people something to get excited about. Each issue features local fiction and poetry, articles, interviews, puzzles and games, and so much more.
