Jacqueries
WHAT IS IT? Jacqueries is a political heist story told through movement -- an inside-out experience of conspiracy, security theatre, and solidarity, inspired by parkour's co-opting of urban space.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING? You'll absolutely need to bring your best pair of headphones. You'll need an iPhone or other iOS device running the latest version of iOS (6.1 or higher). You can share with a date if you need to we've got headphone splitters (be warned if your device is in a non-removable 'hard shell' case, our splitters may not fit!)
Unfortunately right now the show does not support Android devices or older iOS devices like iPhone 3G or third-generation iPod touch.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT? We don't want to give away too much, but you should expect an active, indoor & outdoor experience, equivalent to about a half-hour's regular-speed walk and including some stairs. We strongly recommend you travel light and keep your hands free. Unfortunately we cannot offer a coat or bag check.
NOT VERY SMALL PRINT The performance is weather-permitting, and in the event of a washout we have rain dates scheduled on Friday July 19 and Saturday July 20.
WHAT DOES 'JACQUERIES' MEAN? The title comes from a failed peasant uprising in medieval France, which became a French term for any unsuccessful insurrection by the lower classes. As one of the cast said, "The French are stubborn, they just kept trying until eventually they made a revolution."
HOW DOES IT WORK? Jacqueries is a new kind of theatrical experience, building on promenade-style theatre with new technological tools. You follow individual performers from scene to scene through downtown locations, linked by an iPhone app playing synchronized sound and showing 3D video overlays. It's a performance for an audience who want to do more than sit in a chair and watch.
