A Celebration of Irish Culture for Saint Patricks Day
On the Eve of St. Patricks Day, TCCC will present a Celebration of Irish Culture, featuring songs, spoken word, poetry delights and sing-alongs.
"We at the TCCC have a wonderfully talented group of musicians and scholars in-house and we will feature them all in this community effort," said Bill Molloy, who is producing the event as well as playing the banjo and Bodhran (traditional Irish drum). "As a demonstration of our love for all things Irish we will perform songs and tunes deeply embedded in the culture, some from as far back as the sixteenth century," he said.
Besides Mr. Molloy, performers will include Tim Pitt on guitar and vocals; Pallas Athene on cello and Michael Scott on double bass; Neil Hickey - voice; Kate and Jan Hoekstra: vocal and low whistle; Linda Thornton - vocal; Joe Mahon on concertina, banjo and voice; and Dave Hull: voice.
This will be the third Irish Festival at the Center. Previous events have included "A Nation Once Again" in 2016, commemorating the centennial of the Easter Uprising, and "Echoes of Erin" in 2018, a celebration of the music that sustained waves of Irish emigrants on their journeys.
"Our previous Celtic performances have brought rave reviews which have inspired more people in our community to come and discover us, and we hope to expand our Celtic audience for 2019," said Mr. Molloy. "We will have our greeting room set up with a delightful variety of pastries and refreshments, and some fresh soda bread to enjoy."
