Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble 2019 Spring Season
Welcome to the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble 2019 Spring Season.
Artistic Director Samantha Geracht is reconstructing Three Poems, choreographed by Anna Sokolow in 1975 on her Juilliard students. The work features an ultra-high-energy large group, a sensuous, mysterious womens quartet, and a sexy, entangled duet.
Guest choreographer Robert Cleary is co-artistic director with Lisa Thurrell of Kanopy Dance in Madison, Wisconsin. We will perform his provocative work, This is Not America. It is a statement about the inequalities in life here in our country, as relevant now as it was when Cleary choreographed it in 2000.
We are also bringing back Steps of Silence, Anna's powerful 1968 work on the human costs of oppression and invisibility, a work that speaks to the present even more than ever.
Also on the program will be Sleeping Bouquet, by Jim May, and Desperate Heart by Valerie Bettis. This season we will be joined by guest artist Daniel Fetecua.
