The Young Professionals International Network (YPIN) of the World Affairs Council is pleased to have the opportunity to present a discussion on the recent protests sparked in Istanbul, Turkey. A distinguished panel of experts and activists will discuss the situation leading to protesters occupying Taksim Square's Gezi Park. This is the largest protest Turkey has seen in decades and panelists will help attendees understand the historical and political context that has led to the civic unrest.

The role of Turkish and international media will also be discussed as well as how social media has contributed to unifying the protest movement throughout the country.
