The Naked Stills was founded in early 2009 by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Rocco DeRosa and lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Daniel King. Born out of their mutual love for the pioneering folk, blues, and rock movements of the 60s and 70s, the two began writing material together and performing at local bars and clubs in the Boston area. Drummer Doug Standley was introduced to the duo at an open mic and instantly found a connection with their sound. He soon joined the band in November of 2009. After months of auditioning bassists, fellow Massachusetts native and bassist Ryan Callahan became the fourth and final member of the band you know today.
The group has been hard at work writing, recording, and performing while supporting their EP released in February of 2011. The band is currently finishing up their debut album at 1130ft Studios in Rollinsford, NH, working with NH-via-L.A. owner/engineer/magician Christopher Chase. With a budding and impressive resume of shows played throughout New England and New York City, The Naked Stills are a clear driving force behind the reinvention of the Boston music scene.
AJ EDWARDS - The Boston-born artist began to realize his passion for songwriting and spent many late nights crafting a balanced set of original songs, which he would go on to perform in local bars and restaurants. Many of these early songs were recorded for AJ's debut album, "Start Over the Moon" (released in 2008).
Having toured in support of that release for a few years, AJ caught the attention of Aaron Johnson, the multi-platinum producer behind The Fray's "How To Save A Life" and self-titled records. Aaron invited AJ to record at world-renowned Swinghouse Studios in Hollywood. With what AJ can only describe as a "dream team" of musicians behind him: Tim Pierce (Don Henley, Avril Lavigne), Zac Rae (Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple), Jon Flaugher (The Weepies, Ryan Adams), and Marc Slutsky (formerly of Splender), AJ asserts that his latest work is also his best-sounding to date.
"[Working with Aaron] was that definitive 'shucks' moment for me. Aaron is so talented, and I have been a fan of his work for years now." He adds, "I was truly humbled when Aaron agreed to listen to everything I'd written to date and realize the full potential of what we agreed was my strongest work yet. I am so proud of these recordings."
AJ's new EP, titled "Where the Rain Ricochets" marks his first radio-ready release and features his sessions with Aaron Johnson in conjunction with two high-gloss, homegrown recordings that he made with close friend, producer/engineer David Lefkowitz (Johnny A.) in Boston. The new record was released in May 2012.
JOE YOUNG - In a world where glitter and glam is imposed on the masses liberally and frequently, it's comforting to have some semblance of "real" to cut through all the capricious noise.
New Hampshire native, Joe Young is that element of real. He is the guide lending all those who take the care to listen to legitimate six-string, word-spun accord. Honey, he's got so much love to give. Honey, he's got so much life to live.
With a voice and delivery that loosely resembles Ryan Adams, Joe Purdy, Ray LaMontagne, and Sean Hayes, Young has carved a niche for himself in the ears and hearts of listeners everywhere. From standard pop-folk, to soul searching ballads, and a smattering of inquisitive rambling Americana, Young plays music that takes you on a journey. The destination of which is of no real importance, so long as you've got your ears and mind open, and are ready to follow him on down the road to aesthetic aural pleasantry.
