Kenny Washington at Second Saturday Salon
Second Saturday Salon is a dinner, music and art event. This will be a meal on par with the best restaurants in the area, coupled with an art show and topped with a great musical performance.
Let start with the food... for March the theme is Omakase. Few formal dining experiences are as revered as omakase, a form of Japanese dining in which guests leave themselves in the hands of a chef and receive a meal which is seasonal, elegant, artistic and uses the finest ingredients available. For this evening we have planned a 5 course plant-based meal prepared by international chef, Jedrzej Ciempiel
Homemade senbei rice crackers Daikon and radish salad Farmer's vegetables Sweet potato puree Chef's Selection of rolls and sashimi Miso Soup Matcha Mochi Cake with Coconut Cream
Then there is the art.... A new show from Crossen Creative, a graphic designer and visual artist focused on contemporary abstract art. The art is vibrant and compelling and will soon be featured on the labels of Arpeggio Wines served at the Sound Room.
And then there's the music ..... The Best Living Male Jazz Vocalist on the Planet....none other than Kenny Washington!
Wynton Marsalis says: "I love this man! He's a consummate professional, with impeccable intonation. He's a real improviser who brings depth to everything he does. We all love Kenny. If you love music, you've got to love Kenny!"
Dubbed "the Superman of the Bay Area jazz scene" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Kenny is a jazz virtuoso who thrills audiences with his soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless range, and rapid-fire scatting. Ravi Coltrane has declared Kenny his favorite male vocalist, and Mark Murphy said that Kenny was the only contemporary male vocalist carrying on the tradition. Kenny has performed and/or recorded with Wynton Marsalis and The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Roberta Gambarini, Karrin Allyson, Gregory Porter, Louie Bellson, Wycliffe Gordon, Jon Hendricks, Nancy King, Elvis Costello, Jason and Delfeayo Marsalis, Joe Locke, Geoffrey Keezer, George Mraz, Clarence Penn, John Handy, John Santos, the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra, The Michael O'Neill Quintet, the Pacific Mambo Orchestra and the Slammin' All Body Band as well as countless other fine musicians around the world.
"Kenny's one of the very greatest living male vocalists, without a doubt. He's a sublime storyteller and exquisite balladeer. I love his familiarity with R&B, with Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye and how he can inject that feeling into the American Songbook in a very mature way", said vibes great Joe Locke.
