Collabulous! Presented by MotionArt
Welcome to Collabulous, a dance concert filled with fabulous collaborations between MotionArt director Pam Gleason, artist Edward Bock, musician/percussionist/composer Bruce Wintervold, musicians Sara Thompson and Pat Norton, cinematographers Guy Wagner and Nate Gebhard and lighting designer Mike Milkovich. Enjoy a colorfully kinetic evening mixed with humor, pathos, idiosyncrasy, abstraction, and musicality in this broad range of works to be presented.
Gleason will premiere a new group dance inspired by Edward Bock's Drift Away series of abstract, eye catching paintings with mesmerizing music composed by Bruce Wintervold. She will also reprise Pedemorphosis, a piece inspired by Bock's Pedestrian figures which are projected on the dancers as they delve abstractly into the effect of human intention and chance interactions. Another premiere, Strings Attached, is a suite of dances exploring various aspects of the human psyche with classical and not-so-classical music performed by a live string ensemble with saxophone added to the mix. The ensemble, arranged by Sara Thompson, includes double bassist Thompson, cellists Pat Norton, Cassidy Asch and Charles Asch, with saxophone accompaniment by Carol Lynn Courtney. Also premiering will be a quirky quintet that plays with multiple time signatures in the music composed by Wintervold. And for those of you who were unable to make it to last years show due to an untimely April blizzard, you will have the opportunity to view Gleason's collaboration with cinematographers Wagner and Gebhard of Splash Tantrum in a video of 32 dancers, spanning nine decades in life, who, along with some unexpected twists and turns, re-enact a famous chess match from the 1800s!
Dancers in this multi-generational performance include:
John Agurkis, Anna Andahazy, Thern Anderson, Mary Bock, Robert Borman, Maija Brown, Wes Cannon, Sydney Enzler, Elana Gravitz, Lori Mercil, Alys Ayumi Ogura, Carol Oyanagi, Derek Phillips, Paige Powers, Julie Schuster, Kristine Spangard, Kamalar Tabor, Char Terrana, Alan Tse, and Jen Warg.
There will be a showing of selected works of Edward Bock's art in the theater lobby. Please visit his website at www.edwardbock.com
