The short documentary BEYLE: The Artist and Her Legacy tells the story of artist and activist Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman's rich life through archival recordings along with newly recorded oral history interviews--in both English and Yiddish--with family, friends, and colleagues. Raised in Czernowitz, Holocaust survivor Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman became a central figure in a vibrant Yiddish community in the Bronx. Her creative output spanned seven decades, multiple continents, and various mediums. Beyle, named a 2005 National Heritage Fellow, dedicated her life to preserving and spreading Yiddish through a community of scholars, artists, and Yiddish enthusiasts.
