This course is a comprehensive introduction to the building codes for healthcare environments as well as the AHJs and agencies which regulate them. The presentation will attempt to cover the basis of use and occupancy requirements based on a healthcare occupancy type and provide a background or reason why certain steps in the development of a design need to occur. Finally, the course will provide context for the application of the code information as well as test the listener with field observation photos.
Guest Speaker WM. M. (Bill) Steffenhagen, MSFPE Bill is the founding partner of Fire Protection Associates consulting firm and works with design teams by providing a specialized knowledge of life safety design. Bill started his career in the Tennessee State Fire Marshals Office and currently has over 40 years of experience in the field. Also, he has served on numerous Fire Protection and Code committees and boards throughout his career. Bill is a member of the AIA, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, National Fire Protection Association-Member of Architects, Engineers, and Building Officials (AEBO) Section and a member of the International Code Council.
