CD Release concert for Joes debut album Time Spent In Between
Fri. April 12, at 8:30pm $12 adv./$15 door Dance ages 21 +
Joe Kaplow and his 4 piece indie-rock band, only yearlings, have already established themselves as one of the best bands in Santa Cruz. Described as 'transcendental trailer park' and 'blue collar art' their music utilizes four-part harmony, strong rhythm and great songwriting." For Kaplow, becoming a full-time musician - and adopting the lifestyle that often accompanies it - didnt happen by accident. Having moved from farm life and family in New Jersey to the rich Santa Cruz music community, Kaplow has often found himself living paycheck to paycheck as he tours, records music in various bedrooms of the house where he lives, rehearses with his band. The band, consisting of drummer Mikey Whalen, bassist Elliott Kay, and keyboardist Rob Armenti, expertly and soulfully execute the arrangements off Kaplow's debut album. Time Spent In Between creates a sonic space of its own where lo-fi bedroom intimacy converges with Sgt. Pepper-like production, driven by cathartic songwriting of a folk nature. You might find a little Beck, Shakey Graves, Paul Simon or Bob Dylan. The songs on the album range in mood, emotion and maybe even genre, but in a good way, in a way that is rare in the alternative music scene today.
Willy Tea Taylor: Blackwing Music is proud to announce the release of Knuckleball Prime, the highly anticipated sophomore album from Willy Tea Taylor. Recorded in Nashville, TN, Knuckleball Prime features eleven original compositions that highlight Taylors brilliant storytelling and heartfelt vocals.
