A GRAPEVYNE MUSIC RENDEZVOUS
Gaelyn Lea: Classically trained violinist and songwriter Gaelynn Lea has been bewitching scores of fans with her haunting original songs and experimental takes on traditional fiddle music. Her work most recently won NPR Musics 2016 Tiny Deck Concert a competition drawing submissions of original songs from more than 6,000 musicians across the country. On March 3, 2016, Gaelynn Lea was named the winner of NPR Musics second-ever Tiny Desk Contest. The video entry of her original song Someday We Will Linger in the Sun rose to the top of over 6,100 submissions from around the nation, chosen as the unanimous favorite among the contests six judges. The very next week, Gaelynn performed a moving Tiny Desk Concert, at which the shows host Bob Boilen said there was hardly a dry eye. Gaelynn Leas musical reach has expanded significantly because of the Tiny Desk Contest. She began touring nationally in September 2016 with her husband Paul in their 2002 Ford Econline and theyve been on the road ever since! The way her voice resonates is so unusual and beautiful, like nothing Ive ever heard before. Jess Wolfe (Lucius). Gaelynn also speaks across the country on disabilities and empowerment. There is a link here to her Ted Talk at Yale. In her talk, she recounts the epiphany that empowered her to pursue life, love, and a musical career on her own terms.
Mike Rufo is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and activist. Rufo's songs and poems arc across the waves of life. His music is gripping and eclectic, reflecting his impassioned engagement with the world. Mike's musical language builds upon powerful lyrics, soaring vocals, driving rhythms, and melodic riffs that explore emotional depths and transformation. He also mixes things up with a knack for the well-conceived parody, like his popular single - Spyin' Eyes. Mike's recent CD, Nothin' But Now, features a return to his early folk roots. As noted in The Prelude Press: "The songs on Nothin' But Now weave together in deeply resonant and beautifully conveyed stories of uplift, loss, transformation, and connection."
