A Rebirth Into Motherhod

The Howland Cultural Center, Beacon's premier Arts and Entertainment venue, is pleased to present a reading of a new play inspired by the stories and thoughts of new Moms in Beacon and nearby. The play takes place at a baby shower, where each guest arrives armed with gifts, advice and blessings for the first-time mom to be. Although the characters are fictional, the stories and themes are taken from discussions among real moms. Meeting several times over four months, an intimate group of women gathered to share and explore their identity and lives before motherhood and after. Actress and writer, Erin Buckley, led the meetings and focused on thoughts and experiences not typically shared, not readily available or generally unheard by the public. She had the participants explore subjects that may be considered TMI, too much information: joy, depression/anxiety, sex, healing after birth, relatives, loneliness and more.
