Tio Chorinho & Mostly Kosher Presidents' Day House Concert
Be in the living room with Toronto's Tio Chorinho and Los Angeles's Mostly Kosher, two accomplished bands of world folk music coming together from both sides of the continent right in the heart of Yorba Linda.
Eric Stein, leader of Tio Chorinho, will also talk about his role as a leading cultural worker for Jewish-roots on an international level, including his primary role as Artistic Director in North America's largest Jewish Cultural gathering, Toronto's Ashkenaz Festival.
Torontos Tio Chorinho is the first ensemble in Canada dedicated to performing Brazilian choro music. Choro (pronounced SHOH-roh), is a primarily instrumental musical form which originated in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro in the late-19th century. A unique marriage of popular and classical European styles with Afro-Brazilian influences, it is considered to be the first distinctively Brazilian music style. Choro is the foundation of many modern Brazilian music styles, including samba, and is described by many as the New Orleans jazz of Brazil. Inspired primarily by the recordings and compositions of the great Brazilian-Jewish mandolin master Jacob do Bandolim (1918-1969), Tio Chorinho captures the authentic spirit of choro, while bringing their own flair and original compositions to the mix. Wherever they play, audiences are consistently thrilled by the group's virtuosity and dynamics, and by their easy-going charm on stage. This is their American debut tour.

Mostly Kosher, the acclaimed klezmer gypsy-rock band, radically reconstructs Judaic and American cultural music through ravenous klezmer beats and arresting Yiddish refrains. Mostly Kosher is a musical feast that explodes into a global food-fight of Jazz, Latin, Rock, and Folk. Led by frontman Leeav Sofer, one of Jewish Journals "30 under 30" most accomplished professionals in the Los Angeles Jewish diaspora, Mostly Kosher is comprised of some of the highest regarded Los Angeles musicians. The band is a fixture at renowned Southern California stages such as the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Skirball Cultural Center and The Torrance Center for Performing Arts. They have also graced the stage of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for a live television broadcast to over half a million viewers in 2015 and once again in 2017. Most recently, Mostly Kosher had the honor of being the first Jewish music ensemble at the Disney parks and performed a two month residency at Disney California Adventure Park.
